Derek and Emma Fearnley
are proud to have become the new owner / operators of Newbury Boat Company during 2010.They have worked within inland waterways associated businesses for the last 40 and 20 years respectively. Together, they ran the highly regarded and award winning hotel boat company Inland Waterway Holiday Cruises, with the narrow boat pair, Snipe and Taurus and barge Gallinago. Derek and Emma are both MCA Boatmasters and hold an extensive list of RYA qualifications. They have an in depth knowledge of the inland waterway network.
Derek has also worked in most other areas of the industry from restaurant boats, to commercial carrying in the north east, also dredging and flood alleviation work. Emma was brought up alongside the Kennet and Avon canal, and has of course been associated with Newbury Boat Company almost all her life. After gaining an honours degree at University, a chance meeting lead to Emma working with Derek on the hotel narrow boats, and soon a partnership in marriage and business resulted in a blossoming for the company.
Derek and Emma’s success as a business partnership is well proven; they have won awards for Hotel Boat Operator of the Year and also a Green Award for Tourism. Perhaps more importantly, as a testimony to their combination of professionalism and a personable approach, 70% of their hotel boat passengers returned for holidays year after year. They are determined to maintain the exemplary reputation Newbury Boat Company has developed for good customer service and an immaculately kept marina.
